Free Enfys Original Patterns

Apple Pencil Pot

Materials:  Dk yarn in red, green, brown and beige, 2 beads for eyes (optional), plastic or card tube (7.5cm/3in in diameter, 7.5cm/3in tall), toy stuffing, 3.50mm hook, tapestry needle.

Notes:  Using a plastic tube makes the finished item washable.  I used a Robinson’s squash bottle.

 

UK Instructions

Leaf
Row 1:  In green ch 6, dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch, working in unused lps along other side of ch, miss 1st ch, 2 dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, mark as right side, turn. (12 sts)
Row 2:  Miss dc, dc in next 4 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, ss in next dc, turn.
Rows 3 & 4:  Miss ss, dc in next 5 dc, 3 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, ss in next dc, turn.
Row 5:  Miss ss, dc in next 5 dc, 3 dc in next dc, mark last dc worked, dc in next 4 dc, ss in next dc, fasten off and sew in ends.

Stalk
Row 1:  In brown ch 2, 6 dc in 1st ch, ss to 2nd ch, mark as right side, turn.  (6 sts)
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, (4 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) twice, ss to 1st ch, turn.  (12 sts)
Rnd 3:  Ch 1, working in back loops only, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 4:  Ch 1, dc in next 5 dc, dc2tog 3 times, dc in next dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.  (9 sts)
Rnds 5-7:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, turn.
Rnd 8:  Ch 1, dc in next 4 dc, place leaf against stalk with right sides facing and lining up marked dc on leaf with next dc on stalk, working through both pieces, dc in next 3 dc, working on stalk only, dc in next 2 dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 9:  Ch 1, dc in each dc, turn.
Rnd 10:  Ch 1, dc in next 9 dc, mark last dc worked, fasten off, sew in ends and stuff lightly.

Worm Head
If using beads for eyes, thread on yarn.  If not using beads, replace bdc with dc.
Rnd 1:  In beige ch 2, 7 dc in 1st ch, ss to 2nd ch, turn.  (7 sts)
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, dc in next dc, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc) 3 times, ss to 1st ch, mark as right side, turn.  (10 sts)
Rnd 3:  Ch 1, dc in next 2 dc, bdc in each of next 2 dc, dc in next 6 dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 4:  Ch 1, dc in next 8 dc, ss in next dc, turn, miss ss, dc in next 2 dc, ss in next dc, turn, miss ss, dc in next 2 dc, dc in same dc as ss, dc in next dc, ss to 1st ch, turn.

Insert the tube between the 2 layers of the apple, making sure that the inside of the apple lies flat against the inside of the tube.  Stuff around the outside of the tube to give the apple a nice round shape.
 
Edging:  Place the last row of both layers of the apple together matching up the stitches.  Working through both layers, dc in each dc, fasten off and sew in ends.

Your pot is now ready to fill with pencils.

US Instructions

Leaf
