Caterpillars

Rainbow caterpillar free crochet pattern
Materials
Small amounts of DK in black, red, orange, yellow, green, mid-blue, royal-blue and purple, beads for eyes (optional), toy stuffing, 3.50mm hook.

Scrappy caterpillar free crochet pattern
Materials
Small amounts of DK in a deep colour for the head and feet, assortment of scraps for the body, beads for eyes (optional), toy stuffing, 3.50mm hook.

Notes
Turning ch: the chain at beginning of rows is for turning only and not counted as a stitch unless other wise stated.

Changing colours: Work the last loop of the last stitch of the old colour in the new colour. When changing colour at row ends, work joining slip stitch in new colour.

Dc2tog: Insert hook in st, yoh and draw through, insert hook in next st, yoh and draw through, yoh and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

 

UK Instructions

Feet
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 dc in 1st ch, ss to 2nd ch, turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, ss to 1st ch, turn.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, (dc2tog, dc in next 2 dc) 4 times, ss to 1st ch, fasten off and sew in ends. (8 sts)

Head
Rnd 1: Ch 2, 6 dc in 1st ch, ss to 2nd ch, mark as right side, turn. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in each dc, ss to 1st ch, turn. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 4 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (16 sts)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc) 4 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (20 sts)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc) 4 times, ss to 1st ch, turn. (24 sts)

Rnds 7-9: Ch 1, holding antennae to right side of work, dc in each dc to end, ss to 1st ch, turn.

Rnd 11: Ch 1, (dc2tog, dc in next 3 dc) 4 times, change to red, ss to 1st ch, turn. (16 sts)

Work each section of the body as above, changing to the next colour on row 12 of each section and stuffing as you go. Do not change colours on row 12 of the 7th section. Stuff and continue as follows.

Rnd 14: Ch 1, dc2tog to end, ss to 1st ch, fasten off leaving long end and sew up hole.
